Easy Onion Strings are one of the most versatile toppings in existence. You can use it on casseroles, mixed in with fries or mashed potatoes, or even as part of a chicken crust. There’s no savory dish that can’t be improved with some crispy and slightly sweet onion strings. Easy Onion Strings let you get the freshest and crispiest bites of onion whenever you want, in 15 minutes or less! Your burgers and steaks will never taste the same again!
Ingredients
- 1 large sweet onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups vegetable oil
Directions
Step 1 -Place the onion in a bowl and cover it completely with the buttermilk.
Step 2 -Mix together the flour, all-purpose seasoning, and salt in a sealable plastic bag.
Step 3 -Add a few of the onion slices to the flour mixture and shake it to coat the slices completely. Shake off any excess flour.
Step 4 -Place the coated onion strings all in a single layer on a protracted baking sheet.
Step 5 -Heat the vegetable oil in a cast-iron skillet to 350 degrees F.
Step 6 -Place the onions a few at a time in the hot oil until they are crispy, about 1-3 minutes.
Step 7 -Move the onion strings to a wire rack to drain and cool down.
Step 8 -Serve!
