About
There's nothing like a Morning at Mom's! She always makes us feel so loved, warm, and cozy. She likes to make us this cinnamon-raisin-sausage bake every time we stay over and it's just divine. It's what sweet 'n savory dreams are made of! The topping is loaded with crunchy pecans, sweet brown sugar, and sticky maple syrup... and she knows that concoction is the way to all of our hearts. She's been making this sweet breakfast dish for years and we love it so much. It makes us think back to all those sweet times when every morning was a Morning at Mom's. Gosh, we love her!
Ingredients
- For the bake:
- 1/2 pound bulk pork sausage
- 1 (1-pound) loaf cinnamon-raisin bread, cubed
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups 2% milk
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- For the pecan topping:
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Directions
Step 1 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 2 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausage and cook, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 4-6 minutes. Drain the excess grease.
Step 3 -Add the cubed cinnamon-raisin bread and the sausage to the prepared baking dish and toss to combine.
Step 4 -In a large bowl, add the eggs, the milk, the half-and-half, the vanilla, the cinnamon, and the nutmeg and whisk until blended.
Step 5 -Pour the egg mixture over the bread.
Step 6 -Refrigerate the bread mixture, covered, for at least 8 hours and up to overnight.
Step 7 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 8 -Let the bake sit at room temperature while the oven preheats.
Step 9 -In a small bowl, add the pecans, the brown sugar, the butter, and the maple syrup and use an electric hand mixer to beat until combined.
Step 10 -Drop the pecan topping by the tablespoonfuls over the casserole.
Step 11 -Bake the casserole until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden-brown, about 35-45 minutes.
Step 12 -Let the casserole stand, about 5-10 minutes.
Step 13 -Serve.
