About
Isn't it fun how the terms of endearment for grandparents aren't just limited to "grandma" and "grandpa" anymore? There are so many cute ones out there, but we chose "Nan" for ours. It's simple, unique, but not too over the top, ya know? That reminds us of our Nan's Bacon Brunch Bake. It's simple, because it's really easy to make and doesn't require too many ingredients, most of which you probably already have in your kitchen, like fluffy eggs and crispy bacon. Yet it's unique, because it incorporates the rich flavors of Gruyère cheese with a flaky puff pastry. Nan's Bacon Brunch Bake is perfect, just like the nickname!
Ingredients
- all-purpose flour, to taste, for dusting a work surface
- 1/4 pound puff pastry, thawed
- 12 slices bacon, cut crosswise into 1/2-inch strips
- 1 medium onion, halved and thinly sliced
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- salt, to taste
- ground black pepper, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups Gruyère cheese, grated
- green onions, to taste, sliced, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Lightly dust a work surface using the flour, then roll the pastry dough out to a 10-inch square.
Step 3 -Place the pastry dough in an 8-inch square baking pan and fold in the corners to fit.
Step 4 -Poke the bottom of the pastry dough with a fork.
Step 5 -Cover the pastry dough with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Step 6 -Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Step 7 -Add the bacon to the skillet and cook, while stirring occasionally, until the pieces start to brown, about 4-5 minutes.
Step 8 -Add the onions to the bacon and cook until the bacon is crisp and the onions are lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 9 -Use a slotted spoon to transfer the bacon mixture to a plate and let it cool slightly.
Step 10 -Scatter the bacon mixture over the pastry dough.
Step 11 -In a small bowl, whisk the eggs, the heavy cream, the salt, and the pepper together.
Step 12 -Pour the egg mixture over the bacon mixture and top with the Gruyère cheese.
Step 13 -Bake the egg mixture until the filling is set and the top is golden-brown, about 30 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve garnished with the green onions.
