Ingredients
- 2 (.25-ounce) packages active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 1/4 cups buttermilk, room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, divided, plus more, to taste, for dusting a work surface
- 6 tablespoons butter, softened, plus 1/2 cup butter, melted, divided
- 3/4 cup white sugar, divided
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 2/3 cup chopped pecans
Directions
Step 1 -In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in the warm water.
Step 2 -Let the yeast mixture stand until creamy, about 10 minutes.
Step 3 -Combine the yeast mixture with the buttermilk, the eggs, 2 1/2 cups of the flour, 4 tablespoons of the softened butter, 1/4 cup of the sugar, the baking powder, and the salt.
Step 4 -Stir in the remaining 3 cups of the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. The dough should remain soft and slightly sticky.
Step 5 -Using the extra flour, dust a work surface. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto the prepared surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 minutes.
Step 6 -Divide the dough in half and roll each half into 12x7-inch rectangles.
Step 7 -Spread each half with 1 tablespoon of the softened butter each and sprinkle with the remaining sugar and the cinnamon.
Step 8 -Roll up halves, beginning at the wide side.
Step 9 -Seal well by pinching the seams together.
Step 10 -Cut each roll into 12 slices.
Step 11 -Coat two 9-inch round cake pans each with the remaining melted butter, the brown sugar, the raisins, and the chopped pecans.
Step 12 -Place 12 dough slices in each pan, leaving a small space between slices. Cover and let rise until doubled.
Step 13 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 14 -Bake in a preheated oven for about 30 minutes, and invert the pans onto plates.
Step 15 -Serve and enjoy!
